Warning!

28 February 2022

Regulation (EU) 2021/1902 from 1 March 2022 prohibits the marketing of cosmetic products containing the substance 2- (4-tert-butylbenzyl) propionaldehyde, INCI (International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients) name: Buthylfenil Methylpropional (Lilial) classified among the substances that are carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic for reproduction.

It is therefore necessary to withdraw from the market all cosmetic products containing the substance in question, which from next March 1, 2022 will no longer be able to be marketed.

The substance in question is a synthetic molecule widely used as an odorous component – fragrance in cosmetic products, in particular perfumes, shampoos, soaps, body creams, cleansing milks but also in some household hygiene products such as detergents.

We invite our customers to check the ingredients of the cosmetic products held in order to verify the presence of LILIAL, indicated with the INCI name “BMHCA – Buthylfenil Methylpropional”.

In case of presence of BMHCA, cosmetic products must be set aside and sealed in a container on which to affix the words “Products not salable or transferable – to be returned to the supplier”. The products must therefore be returned to the supplier in suitable ways and the collection of such products must be traced with suitable documentation that must be kept and exhibited in case of checks by the health authorities.
